One shoe. A short list of things it isn't.
The result, in her words: “I stopped fighting my feet.”
"Wide" is the same shape, bigger.
B, D, 2E, 4E: every letter is the same tapered shoe scaled up. It moves the squeeze. It doesn't remove it. Ample isn't a wide shoe. It's a shoe shaped like a foot.

Collected by phone from women who bought a pair through our Facebook shop, before this page existed. Printed word for word.
The score is the average of the 15 who gave one. The other 10 were asked before we started scoring, so their cards show no number. No customer photos yet — bought a pair? Tell us and we will add your words, good or bad.
I've ordered and returned so many shoes. Having a free size swap and time to try these outdoors made trying another pair feel less daunting.
The extra room around my toes is my favorite part. They don't feel squeezed together when I walk.
Usually a shoe feels fine everywhere except across my bunion. I appreciate having more space right where my foot needs it.
I just step into them by the door and go. No sitting down or fiddling with laces.
These have the easy feel I want in an everyday shoe, with enough room for my toes.
My feet tend to swell in the afternoon, so I appreciate the stretchy knit and being able to loosen the fit.
I never really understood what a wide toe box meant until I looked at the shape. The front actually follows the outline of my foot.
Very light on my feet. The sole bends easily instead of feeling stiff with every step.
I need room at the front, but I don't want my heel swimming around. The shape and adjustable cord make sense for my feet.
Other slip-ons feel loose around my heel. The little adjustment cord lets me get these comfortably snug.
I read the return policy before choosing a color. Being allowed to walk outside during the trial mattered to me.
The soft material feels nice around my toes and heels. Nothing hard digging into the sides of my feet.
I don't want extra height from my everyday shoes. I like the flat sole and feeling close to the ground.
I like the simple look. Easy to wear with jeans without looking like a bulky walking shoe.
These are handy when I'm rushing out the door. Step in, grab my bag, and I'm ready.
I prefer a flat shoe where I can feel the ground. These have that flexible feel without a thick, heavy sole.
I wanted something to wear around the house instead of going barefoot. These give my toes room without feeling bulky.
Being able to remove the insole is handy. It gives me the option to use my own low-profile inserts.
For a long workday, I want something light with room around my toes. I also like being able to loosen the fit as the day goes on.
Easy to slip on for errands, and I like that they're washable. Practical for a pair I'd wear regularly.
After trying so many different shoes, I know what I'm looking for: a roomy front, a secure heel, and nothing stiff pressing against my feet.
I have a cupboard full of shoes I barely wear. This time, I paid more attention to the toe shape than the promises.
Going up a size usually just gives me a longer shoe. What I actually need is more room beside my big toe.
I like being able to move my toes inside my shoes. They don't have to sit pressed together.
I wasn't looking for thick, squishy cushioning. I wanted a flexible everyday shoe that lets me feel the floor.
What people ask
Do they run small?
No. True to size. Between sizes, half size up. Free swap either way.
Can these be tightened?
Yes. One pull on the small lock on the instep. One pull to loosen.
My heel slips in slip-ons.
Pull the cord snug. Ribbed collar and heel cup hold the rest. Fit insole if you want more.
Will they stretch out?
All elastic relaxes a little. Ours is tested to 10,000 cycles, the cord takes up slack, and a spare is in the box. Covered for a year.
Wide enough for bunions?
Widest at the toes, where the bunion is. Large bunion? Half size up.
I can't bend over to put shoes on.
Heel down, foot in, done. No shoehorn.
Do they look like a "diabetic shoe"?
No. Plain knit, no logo. Jeans or a dress.
I stand 12 hours. Will they hold up?
Under 7 oz, room to swell, washable. Not cushioned. If you want cushion, this is not it.
Orthotics?
Insole lifts out. Low-profile orthotics fit.
Swollen feet or compression socks?
Yes. The knit gives and the cord loosens.
Slippery?
Wet-floor tread. Slip-tested before production.
Plantar fasciitis or neuropathy?
Not a treatment. Thin sole, so ask your doctor first if you have neuropathy.
Cleaning?
Insole out. Cold wash. Air dry.
