The shoe itself: Ample Daily in Black. Widest at the toes, no laces, a cord hidden in the knit, a thin flat sole.

Every woman we heard from had the same story. You buy "wide". It's fine in the shop. By four in the afternoon the side of your foot is red, the little toe is sore, and you take them off under the table. So you decide the problem is your feet. Too wide, too swollen, the bunion.

That is the wrong diagnosis, and it is the reason the next pair of "wide" shoes doesn't fix it either.

A "wide" shoe is almost always the same shape as the narrow one, made bigger. It still tapers to a point at the toes, which is exactly where your foot is widest. You can buy it in 2E, 4E, 6E, and it will still squeeze the one place that hurts.

We can't tell you a shoe will fix your feet. This isn't a medical shoe and we don't say it is. What we can do is show you what 5,903 women said, what we measured because of it, and what came out the other end.

Here are the five things they kept saying, and what we did about each one.

1

It was never about width. It was the shape.

We put a women's 8 "wide" sneaker next to ours. Same length. Different shape.

The wide sneaker is widest in the middle of the foot and narrows to the toes. A foot is the opposite: widest across the toes, where the bunion sits. Making that shoe bigger moves the squeeze, it doesn't remove it.

So we didn't make a wider version of a normal shoe. We started from an outline of a foot and built the shoe around it.

Left, a regular sneaker: tapered toe box, laces, thick stiff sole. Right, Ample Daily: widest at the toes, no laces, thin and flexible.
2

Widest where the foot is widest: 100 mm across the toes, 30 mm tall.

In a women's 8 the toe box is at least 100 mm wide inside and 30 mm tall.

That's the number that matters for a bunion: room at the joint and nothing pressing down on the toes. Hammer toes need the height as much as the width. The knit stretches sideways on top of that, so the shoe gives where a leather one can't.

One width, because the shape does the work. Most women who normally buy "wide" take their usual size. Very wide or a big bunion, half a size up. If we're wrong, the swap is free.

We took the laces out. You step in standing up.

"Bend" came up 1,070 times. Surgery, pregnancy, a bad back, a hip or knee replacement, getting dizzy bending down.

So there are no laces. You press the heel down, slide your foot in, and the collar pops back up around your ankle. No shoehorn, no sitting on the edge of the bed. Four seconds, standing.

Step in standing up: heel down, slide in, the collar pops back. Real time.

A cord hidden in the knit, because 680 women said "stretched out".

The number one complaint about slip-ons was that they stretch and then the heel slips.

A knit shoe with nothing to tighten is loose in a month. So there's a cord inside the knit with a small lock. One pull and it's snug. One pull and it's loose, for the afternoon when your feet swell. A padded heel cup and a ribbed collar hold the heel. Spare cord in the box.

Flat, thin, under 7 oz. And we say so up front.

The sole is 6 mm of rubber, no foam, zero drop. About 12 mm under your foot with the insole in.

You feel the floor. That's the point for most of the women we read: they wanted their foot to do the work and their toes to spread. It is not a cushioned shoe. If you need 20 mm of foam or an arch built in, this isn't it, and we'd rather tell you here than in a return.

The insole lifts out, so your own orthotic drops in. Under 7 oz per shoe. Machine washable, cold.

Where that leaves you

It won't fix a bunion. Nothing you wear does. What it does is stop pressing on it, stop making you bend to put it on, and stop slipping at the heel, which are the three things 5,903 women told us they actually wanted.

Say the limits plainly, because that's where people get let down: it's flat and thin, not cushioned. It comes in one width. If you've worn stiff supportive shoes for years, wear it an hour or two a day for the first two weeks. Knowing that up front is the difference between a shoe you live in and a shoe you send back.

Questions we had too

Is this a medical or orthopedic shoe?

No. It's an everyday knit sneaker shaped like a foot. It doesn't treat any condition. If you have diabetes, neuropathy or Charcot foot, choose your shoes with your podiatrist.

I wear a 4E. Will it fit?

We make one width, but the toe box is over 100 mm across in a size 8 and the knit stretches sideways, so most women who buy wide take their usual size. Very wide, go half a size up. Wrong fit is a free swap.

Is it like a barefoot shoe?

Close. Zero drop, thin flexible sole, widest at the toes. The difference is it slips on standing up and has a cord to snug the heel. About 12 mm under your foot with the insole in.

What if I don't like it?

Wear it for 30 days. If it's not for you, message us and send it back. Wrong size is swapped free with a prepaid label.

Where do you ship from?
